Started out with the original drivers for this card but wanted to switch to Nvidia's 30.82 flavor but ran into issues:

After switching to the standard PCI driver and deleting/uninstalling the Hercules drivers, upon the next boot the system starts calling for the Hercules
drivers and I have to keep hitting skip or cancel. I was able to install the Nvidia drivers but the system was "flakey" with freeze ups and etc.

I'm thinking that the Hercules drivers are still embedded in the system somehow. Does this mean I'm looking at a clean OS re-install or is there an alternative?

Another question: When replacing drivers like I've done what is the correct order of operations in regards to switching to PCI driver, uninstall current....?

When in doubt, hunt down the infs in C:\windows\inf and rename/delete them, then try a reinstall of the driver.

I personally use 30.82 with 12.41's control panel copied over 😉

Thanks for the tips, never thought about using a control panel from a different version.
