What is a good card to pair with a Voodoo-1 or 2 PCI ?
I am thinking about an Nvidia 5500

Depends on what you want out of it. For 1998 and earlier targeted builds I go with something that has good 2D and DOS compatibility, usually a Matrox Millennium I/II or Mystique; for builds targetting 1999 onwards I tend to go for a TNT, TNT2, Matrox G450, Geforce 2 MX, Radeon 7000, Radeon 7500, Radeon 9250 - it really depends on the year I target.

Actually, I have some:
486dx2-33mhz mobo's
486dx2-50 mobo's
486dx2-66 mobo's
pentium 233mhz mobo's
P3 mobo's with 500mhz mobo's
AMD k6-2-300mhz mobo's.

For any of these I would stick with a Matrox Millennium I/II or a Mystique/220.

Normally i just pair with either a decent S3 card for their reliable SVGA, or a Matrox card. Both of which also have good DOS compatibility. For the later stuff, that would make use of the later GeForce cards like the one pictured, you won't need Voodoo cards at all anymore. By then they where obsolete. A good middle ground is perhaps TNT2 + Voodoo2.

Preserver, refurbisher, collector. In that order.

So I am assuming that a voodoo-2 or 3 card best performs in Win98se in an AGP slot?
And a Voodoo 1 or 2 PCI is good for DOS games but best run on a Pentium 233mhz or AMD K6-2 or 3 ?

So the Voodoo is NOT okay to be run on a 486 with Win3x ?

A 486 with pci is much to slow for nearly all 3d accelerators. Stick with an S3 or cirrus logic card and enjoy good dos/win3.11 compatibility. Stay away from matrox, they are overhyped and have compatibility issues

DOS/w3.11/w98 | K6-III+ 400ATZ @ 550 | FIC PA2013 | 128mb SDram | Voodoo 3 3000 | Avancelogic ALS100 | Roland SC-55ST
DOS/w98/XP | Core 2 Duo E4600 | Asus P5PE-VM | 512mb DDR400 | Ti4800SE | ForteMedia FM801

No such thing as a AGP Voodoo2. Voodoo 1 and 2 were "add on" cards and still need a separate 2d card (can be any card including a more modern 3d card like a Geforce)

a real rough idea would be the voodoo number with the Pentium, so Pentium 1 voodoo 1, P2 voodoo 2, etc

Don't resent please but your numerous questions are without any meaning. And answers can not be with meaning, they can be only explaining why the questions are incorrect. You probably do see retro PCs at first, do you?
