Well, while this does produce a usable signal, for some reason it is not a stable and clear as when I use the dedicated NOT chip. It seems to easily pick noise when I even slightly tuch or move my hand near the wires, while with the dedicated chip nothing changes when I touch them.

It is not the prettiest, and it took me several hours of soldering, but it works! And on the first go, again.
I'm going to buy a lottery ticket 😀

Congratulations on a job well done! 😀

It doesn't look ugly at all to me. Good work!

Haha, I see. ^^ Seriously, though, I think you still did a good job on it.
This reminds me of an an old saying/truism: Nothing is more definitive than the temporary.

And I was starting to think I'm the only one in this country messing around with CGA stuff and this period of PC hardware. 😁 Congrats and well done!

nope you aren't the only one messing around with old video interfaces! i started a project this past spring to dig into how MDA and CGA cards work. i've had some good success in creating my own video card. right now i am driving an LCD panel, but have plans to add in VGA and DVI-D outputs...
