Hello VOGONS members!

Question: How would you go about setting up a system with a Voodoo5 for Windows 98 SE and a Voodoo2 for DOS, as suggested here ( Why use voodoo 2 with a voodoo 3+? )? Would you run the output of the Voodoo5 through the Voodoo2, or would you get a separate PCI card for the Voodoo2 to meet the Voodoo2's 2D requirements?

Thanks!

Voodoo2 would work fine with an AGP card's VGA so you shouldn't need a separate PCI video host card for it, and since you're intending V2 for DOS only you shoudln't have to go through the V2-driver-first-then-V5-driver kerfuffle (which would probably be the same way with the V2+V3 setup I have)

Okay, that sounds good.

I guess the next question is: Once in DOS or MS-DOS mode, would it be best to then disable the V5, just in case of conflicts, or would it be that just as long as the games use the V2 there be no conflicts?

Just place the glide .ovl file for the voodoo2 in the game directory and you'll be good to go. Ofcourse place game patches first if the game need them to work right with a voodoo2 (some older glide games do).

Voodoo5 can't run everything....

Yeah. There are Glide games that depend on certain versions of Glide and might be built around a specific Voodoo card in mind, so while a Voodoo5 supports all Glide versions AFAIK, if a game was written for a Voodoo1 or -2, it's not going to work with the V5.
