So I've had an idea for a long time, and since ive got 2 dead 7900GTX Cards I figured why not, I present to you what I will call the 6800GT+X
It's a BFG 6800GT with a 7900GTX OEM Cooler

Had not even considered that the great reference cooler from 7900GTX would fit the notoriously loud 6800 GT's.
A very cool mod !
Got 2 7900GTX's myself, but in working condition and doing SLI work.
Looks like I gotta find me a broken one =)
Or a Quadro FX 4500 wich uses the same cooler.
Still think its the best looking nVidia reference cooler ever.
And the first really good one.

just FYI, use the 6800GT rear mounting bracket, without its to loose and makes poor contact, with it though my idle temps went from 57c to 44c

And the card is fine with regulating a much larger fan ?
AFAIK the 6 series were kinda bad with that, and some just ran full speed all the time.
Got a very loud AGP 6800GT (ASUS V9999), loud enough that I don't really want to use it.
Then again its got a blue LED fan wich looks really cool.
Actually the 7900gtx is a pen fan so it runs at full speed but it's no louder than a normal 6800gt but it's also colder
