Hi,
I was wondering, if anyone here successfully applied R. Loew's NVidia Graphics Card Size Patch to a Gainward 7800GS or any other 512MB card with a G70/G71 chip ?
When I flash the modified ROM, both Win98 and WinXP crash during boot. And the test program from Loew fails to recognized the graphics card in safe boot mode.
Without the vbios patch the card works fine both in win98 and winxp, albeit only with 256mb vram recognized in win98.

Worst part is I emailed Loew back in May about it, but never followed up on his reply. And now he's passed away...

I have recently installed it on my 7950GT (512MB) and it seems to work fine so far.

Have you tried the Option ROM Disable Patch which is included in the package?

OPTION ROM PATCH

1. Boot to DOS or Safe Mode. Normal Mode probably will not work.
2. If in Safe Mode, open a DOS Box.
3. Go to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM Folder.
4. Copy the PATCHOPT.EXE from the Patch Package Folder to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Folder.
8. Rename PCI.VXD to PCI.BAK
9. Run:

PATCHOPT PCI.BAK PCI.VXD

If you get an error, delete PCI.VXD, rename PCI.BAK back to
PCI.VXD and contact Author.

10. You can delete PATCHOPT.EXE if no longer needed.
Do not delete PCI.BAK if you want to be able to uninstall.
11. Reboot

It looks like his son found his source code and is going to release it at least according to the thread at MSFN.

I think I did. Have you tried it without the option ROM it ?
But since I had also problems booting to XP with the patch applied, I don't think that is the problem. And that should not be a problem according to Loew.

Is your 7950GT AGP or PCIe ? And has it a G70 or G71 chip ?

The patch files are already on archive.org. but the source code would probably more helpful.
