9440AGi has almost identical performance to Tseng ET4000 w32p card in DOS.

9400CXi is a bit slower

There is also 9420DGi that is half way between these two.

There is a bigger difference in Windows but I had problems finding stable true-colour Trident drivers.

I think you should keep the card that has better image quality on the monitor that you use. A 5% benchmark improvement is nothing to brag about if the display image looks like trash, either because of signal interference or poor compatibility with your software.

IF money is your motivation, you probably will get a better prices for the Tseng card.

My BL actually is the 75mhz model, and the upgrade socket accepts a Kingston Turbochip, so it's technically a very fast 386 or a very fast 486.
Nice to see the benchmarks though. I wasn't willing to go through with putting on a new chip because I can't find a bios for the 9440 VLB.
Mind posting a BIOS dump?

If it were my cards, between the two I'd pick the one with a good balance of speed and display quality, with higher emphasis on not having faint vertical lines on LCD monitors. Vertical lines drive me batty.

Life isn't long enough to re-enable every hidden option in every BIOS on every board... 🙁
