I installed Zotac GT520 in PCI slot of Tualatin Pentium 3 build. I performed some tests under Windows 7, 3dmark2001 score was kind of dissapointing (less than 7000 pts, AGP GF4Ti was much better), but maybe under Windows XP would perform better. But the most interesting part was hardware video decompression - it played back 1080p 60fps video with less than 40% cpu usage 😀 It even managed to open 4K 30 fps file, but with heavy stuttering. So I was wondering if I could use that video acceleration with Socket 7 CPU. I installed that card in SiS530 mainboard, but I only got blank screen. Is there a point in trying to use that GPU with other SS7 mainboards, or is it guaranteed to fail because of incompatible instruction set, PCI standard etc.? Is SSE required with Fermi architecture cards?

If it's AT board, you're out of luck.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

It's a very weak card. I was also disappointed by its performance. (Mine is the GT 610 but they are the same thing.) Note that it runs very hot and the thermal paste tends to crap out over the years leading to thermal throttling and other problems. You should replace the paste if you haven't done so already. Also consider replacing the passive HS with a proper HSF pulled from a cheap PCIe card.

Is this too much voodoo?

I got less than 5600 points on a Geforce 210 PCI and a dual core Atom with Win 8.1 but I suppose these old bench and modern gpu simply aren't somehow comaptible to be rendered in the way and speed they were intended to like on older o.s. and on older GUI. For example things get even worse with 3DMark2000.

It's ATX board, Shuttle HOT-599 http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/shuttle/HOT-599.htm.
Maybe i should try putting more memory there, I only had 64 MB when I was testing it. I should probably also check if it's detected by Windows when using integrated GPU as main graphics card.

Actually it seems to be not working when I install it in that mainboard, entire system takes just 24 watts of power and obviously card is not heating up at all.
