For my old computers, well, Everything older and including my XP Machine, I use my heavy as all hell G220fb. The modern computer that I run Flight Sim on is using an LG Ultrawide that runs at 2560x1080 for the main monitor, and a Lenovo ThinkVision 1280x1024 LCD that used to be how I played old games before I got the beast. As for my plethora of consoles, I just use an original model RetroTINK for most of everything, and a SCART RetroTINK for my SNES/Genesis-Abomination/SMS which goes to a two year old VIZIO 4K tv.

I still use the 27inch 1920 x 1200 Samsung 275t that I bought for about $1000 back in 2007, and it's by far the most enjoyable piece of computer equipment I've bought to date. The black levels on that thing made me forget about CRT.

A few years back I picked up a cheap 24inch IPS 1080p LG monitor, thinking there must have been a lot of progress made in 10 years, and it was a big disappointment. The black levels on my old Samsung put the newer LG to shame.

You guys with your fancy CRTs, 144hz LCDs, 4k projectors and RetroTINKs are so lucky.
I only have 3 boring displays. A 1280x1024 19" Viewsonic LCD for my retro rig, a 1440p 60hz 27" generic monitor (remember the super cheap Korean IPS craze around 10 years ago? It's one of those). And a 55" 1080P Samsung LED TV.

I use a 14" AcerView 34e CRT monitor. Works well enough, has good colours and all. Also have a 15" LG StudioWorks 57i CRT monitor but that's broken and I don't have the parts to repair it.

The high voltage regulation on the Acer is a little bit iffy (image shrinks or expands slightly based on brightness). If anyone knows a way to eliminate or at least reduce this, please let me know.

Iiyama B1780SD (5:4, 17-inch) which has a 75Hz panel and supports DOS 70Hz video modes without any stuttering. I bought a B-stock unit with 1 stuck subpixel (returned by the previous customer) on eBay for 25 euro.

what kind of display do you use for old games. Main problemes for LCD are:

- low resolution aren't well "done"
- black don't really exist (maybe OLED but never try)
- format used to exist (5/4 and so)

with time CRT quality are decreassing, their disponibility too.
Never try a projector or a TV.

So what do you use, what kind of issues and solutions do you find with time ?

I am using a mix of different LCD's depending on what specific monitor that works best with each computer I have. My monitors are:

Some kind of IBM thinkvision 170 or something.
Dell 2001fp
A samsung, also 170 something.
A Sony that can do 50hz refresh.

Finally I have a 14 inch CRT television, that can accept an RGB signal through the Scart port, and it has composit as well. I use it mostly for Commodore64.

Thanks. I've been struggling with one of my Dell LCDs and constantly needing to autoadjust/search for inputs within DOS in order to get the picture back after a mode change. May end up getting one of these extron vga-digital upscalers instead. Don't want to spend a ton on a a CRT on ebay...

Isn't it good enough with LCD if you have one that does 1:1 and keeps the aspect ration even being widescreen? Like it isn't bad to have 4:3 image with black bars at sides.
