I have a k63+ and 256mb 6200 pci
When I install windows ME or 98SE I can run the screen savers but at 256color 640x480 until I install the video driver then I get artifacts on 2d windows and the 3D screensavers no longer work yet I can reboot to windows 7 and run a gpu stress test with ati tool scanning for artifacts and all is well.

I’ve tried direct x9
Forceware 81.98, 66.94, and 7?.?? But nothing seems to work.

Anyone else running a k6, 6200, win 9x/ME? What combo do you use?

I missed the fact that this was a PCI card and was about to suggest installation of chipset specific drivers for AGP. I can't recall if Intel released chipset drivers for i430TX, wouldn't hurt to try these. Other than that, I wonder if it could be a RAM/VRAM issue, as I've heard (but never seen) issues with systems that exceed 512MB RAM and also use GPUs with a lot of VRAM. How much RAM do you have on your system?

I installed direct x 9 from the halo cd and I force installed 71.84 and screen savers work now but there are still 2d artifacts on desktop and mouse was lagging but the mouse lag seems to have stopped.

I tried the hardware acceleration setting but no luck in any setting

It’s v256/s256mb ram

Okay, may have figured it out. Force installing 71.84, installing direct x from the halo cd and checking this box seems to have done the trick.

This little check box made the artifacts go away at least for now...

Why a setting for a tv tuner I don’t have is helping, I have no idea..

Went to try and play stratosphere and it kept locking up eventually had to reset.

Rebooted to garbled screen during windows load

Rebooted again same thing. Windows ME is now broken.

Rebooted and selected windows 7

All good loads fine.

🤷‍♂️
