Hi, please read thoroughly, before anwering.

I Have several Voodoo 2 12Mb graphics cards in my possession.
All of them when Installed in windows 98 with the official driver, results in a freeze after startup. No error and no blue screen, it just freezes. (Hence: no movement of mouse, no reaction on screen by keyboard or what so ever.)

I have read some topics and have read something about a TSR file (whatever thay may be, TSR) and looked at memory conflicts.
As anyone here would understand, I haven't done anything with TSR but looked at memory conflicts, but there aren't any.

If I use the Diamond Monster 3D II image, The voodoo2 will install and the computer will not crash, but display properties wil not start.

Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo II image also gets it installed with no PC crash, and gives me an extra voodoo 2 tab in display properties, but before entering the properties I get a error message about a driver expecting a voodoo 2 card, but none are present, while there obviously is one.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
AMD 2400+
GA 7VRXP rev 1.1 KT 333
My primary display card is a 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 64MB AGP
In PCI slot 2 I have the Voodoo 2 card
In PCI slot 3 I have the Creative SB live
In PCI slot 5 I have the Sata 150 raid controller
512 mb mem ddr 333mhz
Win98 SE

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for your time.

Same problems occur with my Intel I740 Agp and S3 Trio 64V+ and the Voodoo 3 3000

By the way, I have tried without the sata raid controller card.
I have tried in SLI setup, different PCI slots for soundcard and voodoo cards. SLI and single setup.

VIA 8233A(CE) chipset => that is most likely your problem. Via was a trashcan back then.
AMD2400+ => you can run XP on that and try the unofficial XP voodoo3 driver, yeah theres 1-2 fps degradation but who cares if it works for ya.

To be honest, I don't think voodoo 3 drivers will work on voodoo 2 cards.

What you want to do in these cases is to strip the PC down to the bare minimum and then keep adding components until you find the incompatibility.
I gotta say, though... I never tried running two Voodoo cards in the same PC. 😁

1 x PLCC-68 / 2 x PGA132 / 5 x Skt 3 / 9 x Skt 7 / 12 x SS7 / 1 x Skt 8 / 14 x Slot 1 / 5 x Slot A
5 x Skt 370 / 8 x Skt A / 2 x Skt 478 / 2 x Skt 754 / 3 x Skt 939 / 7 x LGA775 / 1 x LGA1155

Backup PC: Core i7 7700k

Other potensial issues:
- Having two 3DFX cards in your setup at once (Voodoo5 and Voodoo2)
- Voodoo1/2 cards can cause issues on newer systems due to higher FSB's (try setting a lower FSB in BIOS just to test). This could tie into the chipset being used as mentioned by Gopher666.

Excuse me Aebtdom, but why do you want to pair up the V5 55k with two V2 in SLI instead of just one?

PS: Creative, Diamond and old reference drivers won't work with a CPU faster than 1ghz. Try installing the 3.03.00 drivers. (or 3.02.00 +athlon fix)

Thank you subhuman, I will have a look at the drivers I am using.
And the voodoo 2 cards I want to use is for better support on even older games that don't support the vd5. @ vetz, I doubt that the voodoo 5 causes the issue, since the problems remain the same with an intel i740 and a s3 trio 64V+
A friend of mine got them to work on a xp3000+

Builds:

Xp3000+ gf3 ti200 + vd2 SLI 12MB + 768MB + SB live @ WinXP & 98 Dualboot.

P2 350mhz + Diamond Viper V550 + 3Dfx Voodoo 2 12MB + AWE64 + 128MB SDR @ msdos / win98.

Solved!
The 3.02.00 Athlon fix did it for my Voodoo 2 cards.
First I installed the Creative Voodoo2 card, which worked like a charm!
Next I installed the A-Trend Helios Voodoo 2 card, it installed perfectly, restart and the Control panel crashed.
The 3.02.00 mismatch driver solves this issue to and I now played some games in SLI 3Dfx . THANKS!
