First link is a very useful interactive guide. The second link explains it a lot better but only has the mods looking at the CPU pin side.

Edit:

Which 3000+ CPUs are you running?

The MPs look like they only go up to 2800+

Both are these:

CPU part number AXMA2800FKT4C
Stepping code AQYHA 0423XPCW

Looks to me like that board (like mine) only supports Palomino core Athlon MP's.

So you say that these CPUs are actually running on 800Mhz for real? 😦
Can you please share that wire hack if I kill the cpus then I try that Palomino version I don't really want to buy additional hardware for this box but I'm all open for ideas.

It's running on base/default 6x multiplier. Try installing CrystalCPUID and change multi via software. It works for Geode, should be same for mobile Barton. No need for hardware hacks, IMHO. PowerNow! drivers for Athlon XP-M should be doing that automatically, not sure if compatible chipset/motherboard is also needed.

Regarding graphics card, period correct for games listed would be around Radeon 9800Pro. They had HL2 cupons boxed with them. So, early DX9 era and not Geforce FX. GeForce 6000 is a bit finicky with drivers IMO, and Radeon X800/850 series just kills it in performace.

Ragarding GeForce 6000/7000 and FarCry artefacting, go with the earlier drivers (72.xx or 77.xx for 6000) and keep game patch level below 1.4. Latest forceware drivers brake old games. I think HL Opposing Force is affected in same way.
