Hi all

I'm having an issue with a Compaq Armada M700 which i have seen online has a ATI Rage Mobility P 8MB dedicated graphics card.

I've been struggling like crazy to find the driver for it. I eventually found one which worked and all the desktop stuff worked but Quake 2 OpenGL caused a BSOD and F22 Lightning 3 using Direct X6 hardware acceleration remains disabled i cannot enable it. dxdiag also shows Direct3D: No Acceleration Available. Sooo... I'm a little confused. It also says Approx. Total Memory: 1.5MB in dxdiag??

The drivers i've tried was a ATI Rage Pro driver set not sure what version that was but now i am using some from the Vogons driver library "rageproxlwme" which gives me the same issue.

Can anyone help me work this out and find the correct driver. I'm using windows 98SE and DirectX 6.1a

I downloaded the Armada M700 Windows 98 quickrestore disk image from archive dot org and pulled out what I think is the driver install files:
https://retro.darkintel.org/Drivers/M700_RAGEMOBILITY.zip (It's a little too big to attach here so I'm linking it from my retro file storage site thingy)
Can you see if these work?

Hi

Thank you so much!! I would of never thought about the recovery CD's!

These work flawlessly, Quake 2 is now running in OpenGL mode and F22 Lightning 3 runs in Direct3D acceleration mode. It even shows as ATI Rage Mobility P in display options and device manager.

Definitely worth adding these to the Vogons driver library as these are literally no where else online. They will also work on Compaq Armada M300/M600 and of course M700 models.

Thanks again! Great to have this laptop running properly at last. The little 8MB Rage card performs surprisingly well for what it is.

@pancakepuppy - thank you for sharing the video card drivers, these fixed my video card issues I had with my Armada M300 PIII 600 laptop.

Looks easy to extract device drivers from recovery disk - there is a folder on recovery disk with drivers, one dedicated folder per device - so it is a copy&paste exercise.

I could also find find Armada M300 Windows 95 quickrestore disk image at https://archive.org/details/compaq-176381-001-95
