Hello friends.

I recently put together a PC using a Kyro II for graphics and I'm having an issue with it in Unreal Tournament 99. In almost all levels the floor texture is missing in some areas... it renders solid black:

I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition + Direct X 8.1 and PowerVR Kyro (II) V2.01.21.0007 drivers.

The complete system hardware configuration is:
- Pentium III-S 1400MHz 512KB
- Jetway 618TAS (intel 815EP) mainboard
- 256MB Kingston PC133 CL2 SDRAM - 1 stick
- Hercules 3D Prophet 4500
- Aureal Vortex 2 sound card
- 80GB Maxtor HDD
- 350w FPS 80+ PSU

So far it seems only Unreal Tournament has any issue, as 3D Mark 01, 3D Mark 00 and Homeworld run correctly. I'm installing Dungeon Keeper 2 next to see if missing/back textures occur there as well.

So far, despite 3D Mark scores the Kyro II has really impressed me with it's performance and image quality. UT99 is playable @ 1600x1200 / 16 bit mode with over 60FPS (62 to 68 depending on the map). At 1280x960 32bit mode I get about 80-90 average FPS again depending on the level. I was expecting Geforce 256 SDR performance levels, but it seems closer to a Geforce 2 PRO.. Also, to me it looks like the output and render quality on the kyro2 is better then my Geforce 2 GTS.

Back on topic - has anyone experienced this issue before? Any way to fix it?

Strange how it only affects floors, and not walls or ceilings.
Have you updated UT? Have you tried both the Direct3D and OpenGL renderers?

I haven't tried OGL, and I'm a bit weary of updating the game. I've tried updating UT99 in the past and when I did it broke stability and/or performance with older systems so I try to avoid updates unless absolutely necessary.

Is this an EnTnL enabled driver and is EnTnL enabled? If so, try disabling it.

Thanks a bunch, that did the trick!!! No more black textures in Unreal.

Dungeon Keeper 2 on the other hand has another issue - the windows mouse cursor shows on top of the game, stuck in the center of the screen - quite annoying. Any way around this?

436 should be fine (the last patch Epic released). 451/469 are when the regressive cruft starts
