I know that the Direct3D support in Unreal is somewhat buggy, but I find it interesting that neither the Voodoo 3 or 4 can run this game in Direct3D mode. It works fine with Glide, but with D3D, I just get a black screen and my computer locks up.

Does anyone know what's up with this?

Smug "just use glide" demands notwithstanding, It should work, though this may depend on your Unreal version as the Direct3D renderer had evolved much between patch updates. There's a "Use3dfx" preference switch in there which may/may not help (probably intended for V2).

I tried it using Unreal Gold (version 226) as installed from my original disc. I've never had any problems with it on other ATI or NVIDIA cards, even some mundane ones that are horribly broken like my Matrox G200. But the 3dfx cards don't work at all with Direct3D. The 3dfx option works perfectly, of course. I've always wondered what the issue was with Direct3D.
