I'm having driver issues with the Radeon 9000 series. I can confirm that this isn't a hardware defect, and that it only seems to occur with DirectX 8 titles. I cannot reproduce this with the dxdiag render tests.

The problem shows as either graphical glitches on the desktop where the display locks up (3DMark 2001), or polygons going crazy (Pirates of the Caribbean). Driver version 4.3 is much more stable than 6.2, but still has problems.

I have tried a Radeon 9000, 9100 (Mobility M6), and a 9250 with identical results. This seems to affect the entire 9000 series. I don't have any of these problems with either the 7000 series or x300-850 series.

Is anyone familiar with these driver issues?

I would try to disable Fast Write and/or Side Band Adressing and/or disabled AGP 4x mode (run it at AGP 2x).
What platform are you utilising ?
Did you tried running those cards with DirectX 8.1 only installed (I'm assuming you have either 9.0 or 9.0c currently installed).

I had similar issues with my 9000 Pro. Using Catalyst 4.3 WDM drivers fixed it for me.

I figured this was happening because my card was one of those All-in-Wonder varieties which needed special (WDM) drivers, but I guess it's not just that.

I have DirectX 8.1 installed already. Maybe these drivers need DirectX 9 to function correctly. I'll have to try that.
