All are 1MB except 77C22-E which have 8 x 256K x 4 and 8 more sockets for filling in another 1MB.

S3 801, NCR 77C22-E, or Headland HT209/D (later version).

Which is pretty good preformance and compatiblity?

The NCR board only supports 256 colour modes doesn't it?
Maybe S3 801 is the way to go. I don't know much about Headland VGA.
