Which is the better card?

A Geforce FX 5700 256MB or a Geforce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB? I'm guessing i know the answer but the thing is for my new build I have the option of both but the 5600 Ultra is under half the price. So if it is a worse card is the price worth it? I'm playing Windows 98 SE games fairly low end ones so is the extra cost worth it? Is the 5600 Ultra in fact a better card?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Note that the FX5700 cannot use 45.23 drivers (not even with a modded INF) so it will be slightly less compatible than the FX5600 in certain games.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2

Thats great to know! as compatibility is hugely important. sounds like i've bought the best card for my uses. Love it!

Yes. They are similar in performance (FX 5600 Ultra slightly faster in higher resolutions thanks to higher memory bandwidth, FX 5700 slighly faster in lower resolutions thanks to third vertex shader unit).

But FX5600 Ultra is rarer and cooler (high quality PCB and good BGA RAM), so imho the Ultra is better card.
