I wonder if its possible to pair a voodoo1 with another voodoo, one with 2dchip like the 5500? Why?
Because some dos games has special features only the voodoo 1 can do.
For example Tomb Raider 1 Shadow. Anyone tryed this before? I was thinking/hopeing that when you start game on dos with an exe for the old 3dfx it runs on that.
But im not sure it conflicts with the newer voodoo than.
What do you guys think?
I've never specifically tried the Voodoo 5/Voodoo 1 combo, because, frankly, in this scenario, it always makes much more sense to me to go with a very fast GeForce card (GeForce 4 Ti & Co) + Voodoo 2 (the Tomb Raider shadows also work with Voodoo 2, as long as you add the correct environment variables). This way you get the best of both worlds (speed + compatibility). Keep in mind that Voodoo 1 is very finicky when it comes to CPU/FSB speed, so it's recommended to run it on slower hardware.
The Voodoo 5 doesn't have anything special going for it (no, not even the T-Buffer), so if you must have a Voodoo 5 5500 system... I think it's best to keep it standalone.
Having said that, if you still want to go ahead with it, then... yes, using a Voodoo 5 with a Voodoo 1 should work fine (in the past I tried a Voodoo 3 + Voodoo 1 combo and all my tests were successful, so I have no reason to believe that it would be otherwise with a Voodoo 5). But, again, I imagine you are using the Voodoo 5 on a faster platform, so I would personally go with Voodoo 2 (the compatibility is almost as good as that of the Voodoo 1, as long as you are willing to search for a few workarounds that might be needed by some games).
