Hi all,
Not 100% sure but I think I just broke my GeForce 2 GTS. Tried to take glued heatsink off and...... this is what has happened....
Seems like graphics core separated from pcb ?
Tell me if I'm wrong...

Put it back and heat up the oven. 😉

Yeah I think this one is doomed. Never seen it in this 'shape' btw.

Well, yeah. You've snatched the crystal from PCB. Informative shots though, due to how nicely it came off =P

Yea, it looks nice 😀 Anyway I might try heating it back again but using heat gun instead and see what happen.
Nothing to loose now !!

Holy hell!
Still, that heatsink appears to have been tampered with, so whoever removed it before you did... probably used the most powerful thermal adhesive in the world. 😁

Wow! That heatsink was tightly glued! 😳

Anyway, you got very nice shots that shows the die size of the chip! 😁

I know it looks nice and beautiful seeing it in this kind of a unique, never seen before view/condition 😁
Not very happy really but hey.
Now I need to dig in my old collection of hardware and find something nice as a replacement 😀

how much heat did you apply before prying it off?

That's the thing. No heat at all 😀

FYI, No amount of heat will fix that. the bond wires, the connection between the silicon die and the bga PCB (the green pcb that connects to the main vga card pcb) have been ripped off.
Though you still apply some heat If you really want to remove the heatsink.

That's also always good advice when removing a stubborn heatsink that won't come loose, add some heat to it. Plenty of people have had it happen on AMD platforms, pulling the CPU out together with the heatsink.
Applying some heat makes the thermal interface material come loose easier.

In this state It's dead. No doubt about it.
edit: and aside from completely replacing the gpu, it will remain dead.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

It's a quadro 3 though so its closer to a TI200. Its not as strong as a TI500 or a Vanilla GF3.

What's the difference between quadro 3 and ti500 ? I found pics on Google and can't see the difference hmmm is it only bios or something ?

The differene is in memory and core clock, but you can probably overclock it.
