Greetings,
I just got my voodoo3 3500 and I'm having some trouble.
I want to replace the geforce 256 on my p2b-f system with the voodoo 3.
The card works perfectly on my abit bx6 system but I can't get any video or post on my p2b-f.
Not really making any sense to me.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Double check your AGP settings. It has been 20 years since I looked at them but I remember that Voodoos like the "highest" setting but I am not sure what that is anymore...
I also remember left over drivers from non-Voodoo cards causing issues.

Is your CPU FSB the same on both systems? What about the AGP Bus Frequency? It looks like these are both set with jumpers on the P2B-F.

still completely locks up and won't post when this card is in this board.
i can put any other card in here, agp or pci and it posts no problem.

Do you have a PC speaker attached? Is it giving any beep codes (like no GPU detected)? Maybe a POST Code card could illuminate this as well, if you have one.

Also, maybe reset your BIOS settings and then follow this guide for the Voodoo 3 bios tweaks: http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/voodoo3/index.shtml. Things it mentions:

  • Check various video bios shadow, caching, snooping options according to the guide.
  • Check if the IRQ settings are set to Auto.
  • Check if VGA Bios Sequence is set to AGP.

I also found this bios setting in the motherboard manual, which can cause the system to not boot if set incorrectly.

Maybe try a bios update for your card?
I had issues with my 3000 showing up on a newer motherboard, I updated the bios and it worked perfectly after.
Since your 3500 does post on your other PC, it should be fairly easy to do, knock on wood.
Just be triple sure to read the procedure and pick the correct region.

was finally able to determine that the voodoo3 3500 is not compatible with my p2b-f.
picked up an msi bx master, pretty cool board too, and all is good.

I figured it was going to be related to that write-combining setting since write-combining seems to cause other Voodoo 3 issues (namely the snowy horizontal bar artifacts in DOS VESA games). Oh well, time to move on.
