Hello, i just did a Voodoo 2 SLI with mixed brands , one card is Creative, the other one is PIxelView. CPU is a Pentium 2 300 Mhz + 64Mb RAM.

Windows 98 SE, fresh install, i'm using the FastVoodoo 4.6 drivers. It says "Detected SLI", but when i run 3d Mark 99 Max and 3D Mark 2000 at 1024x768 i got the same score as one card only. Same scores at 800x600 on both too.

If i remove physically the second card, of course i can't select 1024x768 anymore, but the score is the same......I don't get it. >_<" What is wrong with this ? Thanks

Your system needs a CPU and RAM upgrade to properly handle a Voodoo2 SLI setup. At least 128MB of RAM (256MB would be ideal) and at least a Pentium II 400MHz is a good starting point, but the faster the CPU the better they'll perform. You can compare results of an upgrade here:

Thanks, so the PC is underpowered for an SLI.

If you're getting the same score at 1024x768 in SLI as you are in 800x600 with a single card I'm not sure what the problem is? It takes more grunt to render at the higher res...

Of course I don't typically use the 3d mark type programs so I'm not familiar with the scores all that much. How about a quake 2 timedemo?

SLI Voodoo 2s scale very well, up to fast P3 in my experience. I tend to have my V2s paired with my Tualatin 1.4GHz machine.

Voodoo2 cant render above 800x600 with one card, with SLI they can render up to 1024x768 with two 12Mb cards.

Dont mix 8Mb and 12Mb cards, both need to have the same size memory, but your scores seem perfectly normal for the CPU you have, 1024 was quite taxing for the V2 even in SLI and it wanted a fast CPU. If your score is the same regardless of how many cards you have then it sounds like you are heavily CPU limited.

1024x768 in SLI should be only slightly faster than one Voodoo 2 in 800x600 mode or on par, because scaling is not 100%.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

It can render 1024x768 without z-buffering being enabled.

Never heard of doing that, but that does kinda reduce the compatibility/usefulness of the card not sure how many would actually want to do this just to get 1024x768. In normal practice the 4Mb framebuffer is the limiting factor, I do wonder if its possible to fit larger capacity EDO memory to the card and double the frame buffer memory to say 8 Mb.

Yep, that capability isn't that useful in practice and very few games supported it.

Same thing applies for the original Voodoo Graphics card when rendering 800x600 with z-buffering disabled.
