I was at my local parts recycler and I found a GEFORCE MX400 PCI for 5 bucks. When I tried it on my test bench it has the vertical lines when the windows 98 screen loads, and when I install the drivers it blue screens (no surprise). I was thinking this is likely due to bad ram and thought maybe I could fix it? Or it might be fun to try at least.

On the ram it has the following information
Hynix
HY57V641620HG
0150A T-6

And there's a total of 8 modules.

On the card it has the following part number
180-p0036-0000-a
Model: P36

I found this data sheet,
https://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheet/hy … 641620HGT-7.pdf

4 Banks x 1M x 16Bit Synchronous DRAM..
4x1 = 4 megs x 8 = 32 meg card?

Would something like this work?

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Winbond/ … 35i5BHxVw%3D%3D

I honestly have no idea. If its 32 megs, could I upgrade it to 64? Is that even possible? Where do you find parts like this? Thank you for your time

I think your best bet would be to buy another working MX400 (or MX200) AGP for 5 bucks, and "borrow" memory chips from it 😀

1) VLSI SCAMP /286@20 /4M /CL-GD5422 /CMI8330
2) i420EX /486DX33 /16M /TGUI9440 /GUS+ALS100+MT32PI
3) i430FX /K6-2@400 /64M /Rage Pro PCI /ES1370+YMF718
4) i440BX /P!!!750 /256M /MX440 /SBLive!
5) iB75 /3470s /4G /HD7750 /HDA

That's not a bad idea. I may go back to that parts recycler and see what I can find. Thanks for the idea

most likely it is bad gpu and not a memory chips. if they throw cards, just one hit to radiator on gpu and chip lost connection to the board.
i have a lot of cards from scrapyard with same symptoms.

a reballing may help, if no any pads are damaged.

I've never reballed a video card before. I did try the squeeze test and it had no change on the stripping effect. Can you think of any other test that might confirm a bad video ship?
