I bought one Asus EN6600GT 256 MB 128 bit PCI-E videocard for a really low price. After I cleaned all the dust collected on the PCB and cooler the card seems to work fine. I never ever before owned a videocard from GF6xxx or 7xxx series, so I don't know anything for them. This is the card (sorry for small sized pics):

Since this videocard is with heatsinks glued to VRAM chips there's no way to see any marikings on them. HWINFO says they're GDDR3 running at 300 MHz, but who knows.

Is there a way to find out VRAM chip's manufacturer, and for what frequency they're rated without removing the glued heatsinks? I know that GPU-Z can't give such an info.

Typically would be Samsung GDDR3 2.0ns.

Thank you for this information. Do you know something more specific about these Samsung memory chips? I'd like to peek at some datasheet, 'couse 300 Mhz for GDDR3 2 ns VRAM chips somehow seems low to me.

Thank you very much! I found the datasheet for Samsung K4J55323QF-GCxx. If the chips under the heatsinks really are K4J55323QF-GC2o they can run at 500 MHz (effective 1000 MHz) instead of 300 MHz with proper memory timings.

The next question is: Which drivers versions are best for using 6600GT with Win 98SE (if there's any for Win 9x), Win XP and Win Vista/7 32 and 64 bit?

This card doesn't work well with win 98 , for xp forceware 80.xx 90.xx would be ok.

I was able to use 81.98 and 77.72 drivers under Win98SE with my PCIe 6600 GT, but I think I had to force the install through Device Manager.

As others have mentioned, those cards don't have good compatibility with Win9x games. You can certainly play some of the later titles like Quake 3, but older games might not render correctly.

Thanks you, ciornyi and Joseph_Joestar, for the drivers info. I'll try some of these 8x.xx with 98SE and maybe 9x.xx for XP.

And what about Vista/7 (32 and 64 bit)? Maybe I have to try the oldest versions for Vista that supports GF6xxx cards?

P.S. On nVidia's official site GF6xxx (and even FX5xxx 😁) series aren't still considered as "legacy product" and there are drivers for Win 8 32 and 64 bit.
