So I tried to install win 2k on my tyan dual 233 setup and installing the pre r300 driver pack and direct x 9 somehow borked the install. Bluescreens all over the place.
What’s the fastest driver for this card anyway?
Which direct x dist should I install?
Also, if anyone knows how I can disable page file without getting an error that it is disabled that would be sweet. (I’m running a ssd, 512mb of ram.)
After testing (on a 9250), the "Classic" catalyst 5.13 are the most stable for me. See Re: Fastest AGP video card for Super socket 7 platform? if it helps you.
Tl;dr: the main issue is that later DirectX/Drivers try to call SSE instructions.

I installed dx 9b
Driver only on 5.13
I also pulled my radeon 9250 256mb out of my mac and swapped cards.
And did a reinstall of win 2k sp4
So far so good. But haven’t actually done much yet. Stay tuned.
I'm using "directx9_jun2006_redist.exe" which seems to be SSE-safe.

Seems like this config is working well so far. Just played some slideshow halo.
Note that I didn’t test later DirectX versions, this one « just works » and 2006 is already quite far away in the lifecycle of a Radeon 7-9k and Windows 2000.
