There's quite a few posts on attaching fans to the Voodoo 3 but not so much for this card.
Thinking something along the same lines with a 40-60mm fan attached with screws
but don't know if that black heatsink will cooperate.

Anyone have any pics of this card with a fan mod?

Shouldn't it already have a small heatsink with fan?

I agree.
Mine have a fan. Just like the picture on anandtech.

I think the non ultra. Regular V770 only have an heatsink though.

Edit : my card

I may be in error , have to check with you on that. If it is the non-ultra, is it possible to attach a fan on
that style of heatsink without resorting to glue? I imagine screws could "wedge" into the grooves
to hold it steady.

Do TNT2s get hot enough to need active?

I'll have to do some digging on that one. For the record I have the "regular" tnt2 not ultra.

I have 2 of these cards (V770 non-Ultra). One of them is badly artifacting - might be a RAM chip but not sure.
So I think a fan is a good idea. Moreso if you want to overclock it.
A fan would also help the RAM since it gets some of the airflow, and heat conducts through the traces between the GPU and RAM so their temperatures do influence each other.

I recall on a previous system with this card playing Mechwarrior 3 it would sometimes freeze. Could've been a driver
issue but heat could've been the culprit too. I'll see if I have any spare fans and attach it on, post some pics also.

The ultra variant of the tnt2 definitely gets hot enough to need a fan. I have/had the same v770 ultra and remember needing to replace the fan (it was a hack job and had to glue/screw a slightly larger one on).

Definitely too hot to run without one. At least the v770 ultra.
