+1 for 16:10 monitors. I got one after my 20” 1600x1200 monitor bit the dust. I can only really have one monitor for my setup and that needs to cover my modern and retro rigs, so I use a Dell P2423 which has VGA, DVI, HDMI and display port inputs, IPS panel, 16:10, 16:9, 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratios (with automatic selection). It’s one of the more versatile monitors I’ve come across brand new. The only thing it doesn’t have that i’d like it to have is 1:1 scaling, but we have to make trade offs right? I should say that I don’t do any modern gaming so my ‘modern’ needs are modest. From memory, I took a look through this thread when researching what to get: Widescreen monitors and 4:3 aspect ratio compatibility thread

1600x1200 looks great, as does 800x600 (obviously). 1024x768 looks fine and 640x480 is definitely useable.

It displays 320x200 as 720x400, supposedly at 70hz, though I’m not convinced that’s actually the case as I do get a bit of stuttering in certain games with vertical scrolling (which is barely noticeable). It definitely gets a bit pixelated in certain games (doom and heretic are two examples) but it works.

In any case, this serves me really well. I haven’t tested it thoroughly but that’s mostly because I haven’t had to, it just works.

Looks like VOGONS have enough PA248QV users to form up a fan club (myself included). 😆

Being the cheapest (below US$200) 16:10 monitor with VGA port and factory color calibration, it sure is a bang for the buck.

I using for my retro build 16:10 Philips Brillance 240B7QPJEB/23 and it is good.
