I have a Leadtek TNT2 M64 with 32MB and it still has a 64-bit memory interface.

This is detected by Everest, and also evident in the card's lower performance compared to a full TNT2.

What do you mean "still"? The M64 refers to the 64bit memory bus as opposed to the 128bit of the non-M64 cards and 32MB is the max you'll find on these cards.

When I see half the number of memory chips, it's often accompanied by halving the bus. For example, a GeForce 2 MX with 32MB having a 32-bit bus and a GeForce FX 5200 with 128MB having a 64-bit bus.

The question is whether the 64-bit bus is a limitation of the GPU or a result of the memory configuration.

TnT2 m64 can use two GPUs - one is regular NV5 like full 128-bit TNT2 uses. And then there is cost reduced version that physically has only 64-bit bus. Either way, the PCB always has only 64 bits routed as a maximum.

16MB m64 will be always 64-bit. Either using two 32-bit chips or four 16-bit chips.

I have only good memories of Vantas LTs M64s (could never tell which is which). They were cheaper than even normal TNT, and all the ones I had/sold overclocked fabulously to above TNT performance. Fantastic budget option in 1999-2000 when someone didnt want to go used card route.

I used a Vanta in a secondary computer as well. It felt quite fast at the time, although I can't say that I ever ran anything particularly demanding on it.
