Hello all,
I have been searching for ages how to make Tomb Raider 1 work under dos 6.22 on a new PC.
I have bought a voodoo1 3dfx card and a voodoo2.
I managed to make TR Unfinished Business work with the voodoo 2 with an appropriate glide driver (glide2x.ovl for voodoo2). But the atmosphere is so dark that I have to rise the gamma ,but to the detriment of beautiful colours... 😦
I didn't manage to play TR (Original) with either voodoo1 nor voodoo2.
I have tried the 3dfx patch but apparently it does't search for the glide2x.ovl file and it launches the game in software mode.
I have also tried the voodoo patch but it returns an error related to dos4gw.

If I don't manage to make it work this summer, I'm planning to buy a voodoo3 PCI because I don't have an AGP port, but it's becoming rare.

So I would like to know what patch did you use to play TR original the 3dfx one or the voodoo one?

You might want to take a look at this page:

http://www.smokeypoint.com/3dfx.htm

Some of the information is Windows-oriented, but much of it is relevant to Voodoo2s under DOS as well.

I have been searching for ages how to make Tomb Raider 1 work under dos 6.22 on a new PC.

What do you mean with "new PC"? If you mean a current, quite fast PC, then why don't you just use DOSBox to play TR? I've been playing TR with ykhwong's DOSBox build, which does support GLIDE emulation. The game runs perfectly well, and looks amazing.

It's also possible to play TR with the VDMSound/GLIDE wrapper combination, but i never really got that working, so i sticked to the DOSBox solution.

What also might be interesting for you is the fact that i had to use the Voodoo Rush upgrade, not the 3DFX one, to make acceleration work. The 3DFX update seems to have the glide2x.ovl (i think that's what it is called) included in the .exe, where the Rush upgrade uses an external file.

OK, in fact after a while, I have installed Tomb Raider on an old PC (PentiumII 166MHz), plugged the voodoo1 card and all is working perfectly, the colours are beautiful. I have just put the glide2x.ovl in the tombraid folder and the game launches without any problem.
