Back in February, I tackled a AWE64 value problem that SU3 tryed to help me resolve, but I couldn't ever get it to work properly. I reinstalled the card after my gameport died on my old card and am farther along this time.

I am able to run diagnose successfully now, but the aweutil.exe gives me a "initialization failed" when trying both the /s and /em parameters. Regular sound is fine, but no midi. I have a set midi parameter in the autoexec that seems to go through fine. I am so close to hearing Descent 2 midi once again...

One possibility.... it does say "Awe32 initialization failure" so I may have the wrong aweutil. Is there one specifically for the Awe64?

It may come to that. I am installing Win98 on the machine tonight and if I get the same problem, I may have you upload your copy. Thanks for the help.

That was it! The Win98 Awe64 driver program updated my system files, and just like that, aweutil installed and worked correctly in DOS. I just ran sys c: from my floppy to get everything back to the no Windows state, and I'm in midi land!
