Hi guys

Know this is not technically about getting a dos game to work, but I've been trying to remember a dos game kind of like Tyrian for years now.

First thought the name was Piranha, but checked it out and it wasn't that, but the graphics style and music was similar, like Tyrian with that style and music.
Then checked out Raptor but that wasn't it either.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

/Jacob

"flying tigers" maybe?

if not, just try a search for DOS shmups, this really wasn't a huge genre on DOS...

It was much more recent graphically and more scifi'e

Have been searching, just cant seem to find it.
I may be remembering wrong and it was actually a win95/98 game

No, the viewing angle was more like Tyrian 2000

But at this point I can even remember if the movement was left/right or up/down
When I remembered the name Piranha I was sure if was that (did actually play it way back then)
But not when looking it up.

As far as I remember the ship/level colors were brighter and gray/metal maybe with cloud like backgrounds.
I don't think there were any ground items.

But fer serious wasn't a DOS port from Amiga was it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POkQPbfrYuk

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

The MobyGames lists in general may help in narrowing down the search.

DOS games in the category Shooter :
https://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/shooter/dos/

The above, for 1999 :
https://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/shooter/dos/1999/

Or, for Windows :
https://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/shooter/1999/windows/

Since you mentioned Tyrian and Raptor, don't forget also DemonStar ("DemonStar has been heralded as the successor to Raptor. It is a smooth scrolling shooter made in the tradition of Raiden").

I think is was more like R-Type/Firewind

I'm guessing its around 1996 since my mind still wants the name to be Piranha,
so probably played it in that period.

Sideline looks like quite a polished Gradius, R-Type or Phalanx imitation. I'll have to take a look at that!

Some i remember from "back then":

An earlier one, Baryon? Pretty good gfx for its time but distinctive low-ish quality, 8-bit-only music.
Or similar to raptor and tyrian, with some curiously similar graphics? Might be Ravage

Terroid is a quite late side-scrolling shmup (iirc also german).

Could it be... Idinaloq

If you haven't played it and like shmups, I would highly recommend it.
