SPECS

Pentium 200 MHZ
64 MB RAM
PC DOS 6.3

Ok, I purchased this game yesterday, and I am very dissapointed for the fack that this game had to crash for no reason. What happened is that during
gameplay at Level 1, episode 2, I got a crash that went from gameplay back to the starting screen with the blue bar on top that shows you the game that is being played.

If there is a patch for this game, please let me know, because a version of 1.00 sounds buggy.

I think I have a Sound Blaster DMA conflict. I think so, because the program crashed with static when I switched characters in E2M2. I read through the rochelp.exe, but I find this manual to be very confusing. I don't know if I should just start the Sound Blaster 16 setup to reset the DMA channels or manually reset them,
if I have to manually reset the DMA channel, please explain me the process of doing this. If anybody else owns the registered version of Realms Of Chaos and had the problems that I had, I would like to know what happened and how you solved it. Gosh its a shame that I spend my well-earned money on
this game, and I'm having problems with it...

Well, the shareware version seems to work just fine under DOSBox.

You should give DOSBox a try -> DOSBox 0.63

Damn. I always forget to take CPU into account.

No. I checked dlh.net and it weren't any patches. I also checked official support at Apogee. No luck either.

I don't know. He could post the contents of CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT - Maybe there's something bad there.

Another idea is to try out MS-DOS 6.22 instead of PC-DOS 6.x

I had both MS-DOS 6.22 and PC-DOS 7.0 (IBM) and I found out MS-DOS to be more compatible. PC-DOS was good, but it failed with certain applications.

Here is what I will do, I will PM you my Autoexec lines and Config lines, and if there is something wrong with my lines, you explain to me about the errors on
the lines.

It's okay to me. PM to me your config.sys and autoexec.bat and I can suggest some changes if needed.

Somehow I feared that... Well I put it here...

Autoexec: SET SOUND=C:\SOUND16 SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6 SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E SET CTCM=C:\CTCM C:\SOUND16\DIAGNOS […]
Show full quote

Autoexec:
SET SOUND=C:\SOUND16
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\SOUND16\DIAGNOSE /S
C:\SOUND16\MIXERSET /P /Q
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S {I don't know what is this}
@ECHO OFF
\BIN\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000
PATH=C:\DOS;%PATH%;
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
PROMPT=$P$G
C:\DOS\MOUSE.COM {->CuteMouse<- may take less memory if using PS/2}
C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM /P {Not sure about this}

CONFIG.SYS:
DOS=HIGH
REM DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE {Uses memory and probably not needed}
DEVICE=C:\DOS\POWER.EXE {don't know what is this. Laptop related?}
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
LASTDRIVE=Z
DEVICE=\DEV\TAISATAP.SYS /D:MSCD000 /N:1
FILES=50 {30 is too low for my liking}
BUFFERS=20,0 {Again, 10 is too low, but leave it if you are desperately running out of memory, 2nd value after comma is read ahead buffer of some sort. Commonly unneeded}
STACKS=9,256 {Needed to avoid certain nasty hangup situations. They also offer better stability for poorly written software

CHANGES ARE IN BOLD... TEXT IN BRACKETS ARE REMARKS.

REMEMBER TO BACKUP ANY FILE PRIOR TO MODIFYING IT...

There we go, from the 40 second testing that I did, I found a difference!
There is no more crashing. (Not 100% sure)
Thanks for making the changes to the files, I deleted /P like you suggested
and everything loaded with no problem, the Command prompt program came with with no probs.
Now, I will play through ROC, and if there is anyhting else, know will I let you! 🤣
