How difficult is it to learn the usage of disassemblers and debuggers for the purpose of getting older games to run? Are there any recommended tutorials?

I assume that the debug version of DOSBox is sufficient for most purposes, or is there a better debugger out there?

Not all debuggers work in DOSBox, because they make use of special debug registers which aren't emulated. TR works in DOSBox is used sometimes by me. (TD works as well I use sometimes for the FPU registers)

For disassembling I use IDA.

Outside DOSBox (DOS/WIN98) softice is one of the best.
