I've got the game installed, but the install program won't let me select a sound card. It says No FM soun card available. Under that I can only select buzzer under sample card. My sound card is a Sound Blaster AWE 32 and my OS is Windows 98 Second Edition.

You need ms-dos drivers for your sound card for ms-dos games to recognize audio. Or... you could try DOSBox.

The sound blaster setup program adds lines to the autoexe and config.sys, is this enough?

Do you have ms-dos drivers loaded for the AWE32? Do they exist at all?

I believe so. It loaded the IRQ, DMA values and such into the autoexec.

there must also be some sort of SBINIT program running, the variables on autoexec.bat are not enough... go to creative's website and there is a package called : BASIC DOS SUPPORT UTILITIES FOR WINDOWS 95/98 or something like this , use the progs in there to have your AWE32 working under DOS. Also be sure to have the BIOS option: PnP OS INSTALLED to NO , for the DOS utils to work OK...
My sb64 did not initialize all it's devices under DOS, because of the above option... set it to NO 😵
