Too little programs require VESA 3 (in fact, I have never seen one). Most videocard bioses are happy enough with their VESA 2.0 implementations.

while we're at it, what does sdd, univbe, univesa and similar drivers really do? does it fool the software into thinking that i have such and such hardware; and translate an oddball video resolution into one that my actual hardware can use? i already have a vesa3 card (geforce2mx-200 64mb) but i still can not use all the video resolutions that my nes emulators provide.
