Much better would be to emulate vesa using directdraw, combine a kernel driver with a vdd and a small tsr .

I have visions of immense slowdowns. Emulation of video?!?

It would be better to find a way to do LEGAL pass-through.

Besides, what of beyond VESA2? All the SciTech creations?? VBE 3.0 and whatnot? The cards already support these, an "emulation" would not, for a VERY long time.

Unless you mean "emulation" in the more broad sense.

Duffman, As far as I know the Windows DDK itself is free, you can order a CD and pay only for the shipping and handling. Home page of the Windows DDK is here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/ddk/winddk.mspx, the order form is here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/ddk/ordernetddkcd.mspx (select Windows XP SP1 DDK).

I am trying to get one of these from my company's MSDN subscription (it's hard to get anything on CD from MS if you are not in the US or Europe), so I can check the rumours about the vga.sys driver source code.

I remember searching for vga.sys on Google and one or two guys were talking about the source code for vga.sys being available in the DDK. I can't remember exactly, but a search on Google groups for "vga.sys source code" (http://groups.google.com/groups?&q=vga.sys+source+code) shows at least one post about it.

Anyway with this distortion thing,
how come the 3dfx versions of GTA and blood I have can go above 640x480 resolution but not the non-3dfx version??
It seem rather odd

Just a random question
Does nvidia have all the former technology and programming scripts of 3dfx? If so, do you reckon nvidia would release any of those obsolete DOS scripts that 3dfx had when dos reigned supreme?
DOS scripts dont really have any relevance to nvidias design anymore
