one quick question: install command

i have read many instructions and when i get to the install command, when i type in and enter

install

when i get all the way to c:\gamefolderisthisone>

for example

c:\game>
and i type as a command plainly, install, it says

illegal command: install.

how could that be? I'm reading and instruction manual and it is saying to insert the command install but it will not work.

ANY help, or any man or woman trying to help me would be greatly appreciated.

What game?

If it doesn't have an "install" file then the "install" command will not work.

Also, try dir install.* in the game's source folder (the folder where you put the game installer files in).

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....
