I can't get Simon the Sorcerer II to work properly on Windows XP. I have the updated version, but that was written for Windows 95/98 and not future versions of Windows. Using VDMSound I can get the game running, but after 5 minutes or so it just shuts down and goes back to the desktop. The cd includes both the DOS and Windows version so help for either is appreciated.

It's not PERFECT, but try a recent daily build of ScummVM.
ScummVM can play -some- versions of Simon2, but we've been concentrating on Simon1 support lately.

See the URL in my signature :) You want to run it with the game target 'simon2dos' and 'simon2win'. Try each in both the dos and windows directories... hopefully SOME combination will work with your particular version!

Hi Ender,
Great nickname! A character from one of my favorite series of books... http://www.hatrack.com/osc/books/ender.shtml

And keep up the good work in improving this: http://scummvm.sourceforge.net/compatibility.php

And now the (short) answer to your plea, answered by yourself:

And we're honored, sir. If one amongst your crew would like to write (or have already written) a HOW-TO for SCUMMVM for our department here: forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=13
like Nick Sonneveld already did for NAGI, please go right ahead!

P.S. Rumor has it, a somewhat acquaintance of mine (http://www.aarongiles.com , http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view … veloperId,1805/) is a fan of SCUMMVM. 😀

I knew ScummVM had support for Simon 1, but I didn't know it could work with Simon 2 as well. Thanks! I'll give it a try 😀

Do you plan to make both Simon 1+2 fully compatible and working with ScummVM?

Eventually! We're concentrating on getting LucasArts games working first, but given enough time... who can say what will happen 😀

There are Windows 9x ports of the Simon games. I didn't think they were all that polished compared to the original DOS versions, but beggars can't be choosers and all.

I don't know if Adventuresoft have a free patch available, I have seen these ports in the double pack CD edition of the games.

If someone could check to see if Adventuresoft has those available for free that'd be great. If they don't, I'll send them an email and let them know that we'd appreciate it if they would release the ported version interpreter.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Adventuresoft's website is very limited it seems. They have simple technical FAQs up for both Simon 1 & 2 which are identical, and the questions don't inspire confidence in these ports working well on our current DirectX7+ Windows 2000 machines. The only download I can find is a patch for the Windows 9x ports so that the mouse functions correctly on MMX (!) machines.

Their contact details are located here.
