Hi
Descent 1 works perfectly on my computer, but for some reason Descent 2 crashes at the installation screen, when it tests for playback speed (whatever that means).
Happened on DosBox 0.74 and 0.73
Any ideas?

Probably too many cycles
dont use dosbox
install under windows if you can (32bit) then use D2X-XL

I played Descent recently, and recommend DXX-Rebirth - you will only need to copy the game files from the CD. It's a very accurate port, hi-res is a nice addition (though you can play at 640x480 if you wan't extreme retro feeling), you can also have filtered textures like with the Voodoo patch. It's much faster than playing it with DosBOX.

EW!
By the way DOSBox works fine when installing Descent II from CD, well at least the old March '96 cd. Dunno about the rereleases or rips. I do not have a crash problem.
Try changing output= in your dosbox.conf, perhaps a video mode switch is tearing it apart.

Guess the linux guys will love the "use windows 32bit" item.
Is install.exe a linux executeable ?

Descent II on "Descent I & II: The Definitive Collection" works too without crashes.

That's where the dosbox-under-linux thing comes into play assuming
you correctly hinted at the descent installer being no linux executable.
