Are there any drivers i must load from MS-Dos enviroment to run 3DFX
games utilizing Voodoo 2 Chipset ?
all games designed for the voodoo2 used windows
if your are talking dos games designed for the voodoo1 running on a voodoo2 then most should work
some will need the v1 enviroment variables in autoexec.bat
set SST_GRXCLK=90
set SST_FT_CLK_DEL=0x4
set SST_TF0_CLK_DEL=0x6
set SST_TF1_CLK_DEL=0x6
set SST_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1
set SST_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0
set SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2

OK. What do i need please ?
So i need to copy paste these to Autoexec.bat ?
Cause i'm trying to run Screamer 2 and Screamer Rally with no luck so far.
Though with Canopus Pure 3D they work.
what games do you want to play ?
and you do have a voodoo 2 - yes ?

edit:
screamer 2 + screamer rally are windows games
edit:
you say screamer 2 + rally dont work then you say they do
what is it ?
edit 2: a canopus 3d is a voodoo1 not voodoo2
Guardian of the Sacred Five Terabyte's of Gaming Goodness
Yup. From Dos with Canopus they play fine. Both of them. Now any chance to play them from DOS with Voodoo 2 (Creative or 3D Prophet II) ?
are they running in 3dfx mode in dos ?
i am pretty sure they used windows glide not dos glide
edit: you are right its a dos game

for screamer 2 try this
create a file called runme.bat
paste the following into it :
set SST_GRXCLK=90
set SST_FT_CLK_DEL=0x4
set SST_TF0_CLK_DEL=0x6
set SST_TF1_CLK_DEL=0x6
set SST_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1
set SST_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0set
SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2
SET SST_SCREENREFRESH=60
SET SSTV2_FASTMEM=1
SET SSTV2_FASTPCIRD=1
SET FX_GLIDE_ALLOC_COLOR=3
pause
s2
(i am assuming s2.exe is the sreamer 2 3dfx program if not change the s2 line to whatever the screamer 2 program is called)
then run the game by typing in runme

@Davros many many thanks for your time. I will try this and i will update the post.
This really helped me sort my Screamer 2 out FinallY!
After installing the game on my WIN98 machine, software mode played fine in 320x240 and 640x480, but the 3DFX patch just would not work. Hanged on a black screen straight away and I had to hard reset. I tried the batch file written above and got an error message (better than black screen) saying triple buffer command fail. I then searched google and found that the Voodoo 2 cards had trouble with the 3Dfx patch with the 280kb S2_3dfx.exe, and that there was one which was 1.12mb containing S23dfx.exe (no underscore). After an hour I found it and it worked, but the colours were washed out and pinkish and the game played at a very slow rate.
Using the batch file above WITH the S23dfx.exe works PERFECTLY. And I'm very, very happy.
Thanks a million. 🤣

Please jot down a living link to that patch here, it is nowhere to be found on the internet anymore...
THANKS!

Yes it is! I found it! Took me about 2 hours though.
I can't remember where I got it exactly now because I visited SO many sites. PM me and I will send it to you. I will look into posting it online somewhere that will host it for free, but I don't know where to look.
Also I just bought Screamer Rally original from EBAY and apparently, the 1MB patch I have which works (the S23dfx.exe) came on the Screamer Rally CD.
So yeah. PM me.

Thanks Iris and Davros,
in the meantime I have also found a SC Rally CD.
The SC 2 Voodoo 2 patch was available on an Italian site (no wonder, the largest pro 3dfx community was/is Italian). Still looking for that link to make it public.
😉

Good idea, I have sent them a request. Hopefully they will upload it.

The solutions given in this thread are spot on if you want to run these two games on a retro computer. Both games ran fine on my Compaq (200mhz mmx, 80 mb SDRAM, Voodoo 2 SLI), though Screamer 2 always crashed when I tried to exit the game. Though it took some trial and error to get it working. Thank god I found this thread!
I had no problem finding the s23fx.exe patch for Screamer 2 on Google, but I'm putting it up here as an attachment.
Want to add that if I tried to run Screamer 2 and Screamer Rally through Windows 98 I got a crash. I had to restart or boot into native MS-DOS. Since the game is abandonware I first tried the cracked/DOSBox version, but this didn't work for both games when it came to the 3dfx versions. After some searching I managed to get hold of the ISO files. They work perfectly and also the CD audio music is nice.
Woah, screamer 2 is certainly not abandonware, the developers still exist as do the publisher
