Hello people! I have a sound realted problem with this game.
I'm using a 486 DX4 75mhz with a SB16 + NEC385

When I setup sound blaster or adlib, the game plays perfectly. But when I select Roland mt32 / LAPC-I, the game goes really slow and there's no sound. And when I say really slow I mean, unplayable, like in a 286.

I really like this game (very difficult!) and the MIdi music is well worth it. Any help is welcomed!

Hi Pingaloka!

Just tried this on my Pentium and the MT-32 music works fine.

I have no idea what to do in the game but walked around a little and the speed seemed fine.

Machine is a Pentium MMX 133 with L1 cache disabled.

Really strange! Tried in 2 different computers and nothing!

Speedwise the game works perfectly when Sound Blaster is selected, when Mt-32 is selected the game struggles....in the sense that it chokes up.

I'm going to try take out the NEC and see if that is the problem.
Or maybe it only works when Roland mt-32 is detected?
But that it not probable is it?

Mau1wurf1977 you have the NEC, would it be possible for you to tr it out?

There is no such thing as "MT-32 detected". It talks to the MPU401 interface and that's it. What's connected to that, nothing for example, doesn't matter. Meaning if you remove the NEC, the game should also slow down.

Can someone try this game with a SB16 + NEC? See if it works? I think that the issue is the SB16 + NEC in MT-32 mode. Can't get it to work.
I'm waiting for a cable to arrive to make the ribbon cable to connect the NEC to a Yamaha sound card.

Works on my LAPC-I, but on a SB MIDI interface I get the same symptoms as the OP.
It might be one of those games which need a real MPU-401 interface.

Thanx a lot 5u3! I want to try on the Yamaha+Nec as soon as I make the cable. I'll post results.
