Hi... I don't know if anyone else even cares about this game but...

I'm trying to get the old 'Gold Box' game Pool of Radiance to run on my Windows XP-run comp. I'm installing from the 9-game gold collector's edition with the gold disc. After I enter the "Create Character" portion and am trying to create characters, as soon as it comes up to the part where you are able to change the portrait of your character, a message appears at the bottom that says "Insert disk 3 in drive D:" and I am unable to continue. Please someone assist me with this problem, thanks.

You will need to use DOSBOX anyway, otherwise the game will be too quick to play.
Alternatively use some slow down program - but I do not have very good experiences with such utilites - current computers are just too quick to be able to slow down comfortably on PC XT speed (unless switching off processor cache 😀 ).

But back to your problem with the game wanting the disc. You have wrongly set paths in POOL.CFG. See the following thread in DOSBOX forum:
