Hi, I'm currently trying to setup my dos computer in a way that it does not need to use CDs at all.
Right now I'm working on setting up Quake, I got it set up all nicely with a bat file that allows me to select mission packs and stuff.

But.. to get music from Quake and the Mission packs you need the cds, which I have.. but I don't like having to
swap discs every time I want to play a game. (not to mention the noise that the cd drive makes)

So my question is.. how difficult would it be to add OGG music support in dos quake?
The source is available, but would it even be possible under pure Dos?

Also, just wondering, if there's a way to play the music files from a iso

iso is sadly just for data, or I would have used SHSUCD to play the music from an iso.

If someone ever figures out how to emulate a CD-ROM drive under pure DOS with CD audio support, I think they deserve a medal. Even a solution that works on Win95 without having to install IE4 (yuck) would be great.

There was a "QDOS" port that might or might not do this. i forget

As for adding streaming music into quake, good luck. Usually the problem is trying to paint consistently into quake's wacky sound buffer code.

I wanted Engoo's DOS version to have DUMB's mod playback and ogg playback at one point. Was able to put libxmp into Q3 though, where the sound code is a little less wacky

Found it and apparently it supports both OGG and Wav!

OGG and WAV streaming music in the form of id1/music/trackxx

Gonna try it out and will let you guys know if it works.

I speculated a while back if a hardware solution in the vein of the Gotek would be possible.

QDOS plays the music perfectly! Thank you very much for telling me about it leileilol. (and Maraakate for creating it!)
