Just thought it's worth mentioning that I find that Screamer works much more reliably (less random crashes to desktop on XP) if you go into the Setup program (which itself crashes half the time you try to start it!) and choose None to audio.

Alternatively choose Soundblaster Mono and then use VDMSound and it appears way more reliable than using SB16 or other in Screamer's Setup program.
