I've been noticing when comparing footage of the MS-DOS and 3DO versions of Lost Eden on YouTube that the latter version has superior sound quality, with both the music and speech being at least near-CD quality; whereas the MS-DOS version's audio is obviously compressed. Is there any way to get higher-quality sound from the MS-DOS version?

Since 16-bit 44.1KHz Stereo and Dolby Surround sound were part of the 3DO spec, it made sense to support it in the 3DO version. On the PC platform however, the publishers had to support older sound cards as well. But you have a point, the DOS game came on CD-ROM, so there was definitely room for it for those fortunate enough to own 16-bit sound cards.

Perhaps the 3DO version was released later?

Perhaps someone knowledgeable who loves the game enough could create a fan patch that would replace the sound assets of the PC version with those from the 3DO version. 😉
