I've been getting DBGL all set up on my XP rig over the past few days and I'm just curious if y'all think I'm missing anything. So uh... Yeah. Let 'er rip, tater chip. The desktop screenshot linked at the very end was included just in case I have some GoG games that are DOS.

NOTE: Command & Conquer was not wanting to play nice so unfortunately that one is dead in the water.

How a out telling us what types of DOS games you like? RPGs? Action? FPS? Adventure?

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Honestly it's easier just to say that I'm not into text-adventure games (such as A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). This is my first real dive into DOS gaming so really as long as the gameplay isn't horrible and it's not text-adventure I'll probably be into it.

To see what you'd be getting into ahead of time, just plug in the game name with pc gameplay into youtube.

Seems that they didn't have access to the sourcecode, so I dunno about the rights to declare it freeware, buddy.

No, that's correct. It's free-as-in-beer-ware as opposed to Free Software. He says he acquired the copyright and is freely distributing the compiled end product.

I hope I wasn't harsh or anything. I think source code would be cool if and when it happens.

As to the copyright issue, if he's wrong, I figure it's him that will be fighting in the arena with the copyright lawyers. In the meantime, we can all try beating the King on a Mulholland Drive race.

It's a little uncommon for a one-man "company" to post "we own the copyright now" without offering much proof, is all. Citing a little correspondence with the previous owners might go a long way towards establishing trust.

Same thing happened with Sango Fighter. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I believe we can assume he's acting in good faith. If he's lying, he's the one that'll be in trouble.

I wouldn't go so far as to build a business around it, but in this case it's just a game. At worst, we delete it.

Here's a similar thread going back a couple years. It has a handful of references out to top 100+ lists, including two to mid 90s Computer Gaming World magazine (PDFs).

(edit) here's the link: "Must Have" Best DOS games

Glad to see this was all sorted even before I got back 😀
I thought I was correct, but I'm no legal expert either so happy to go with the mods decision, their site, their rules!

No idea what you're going for...and it seems like you have several years worth of games there :p

But, having recently been working on it, I feel you're missing Willy Beamish.

Also, you're missing the greatest game ever, Betrayal at Krondor, but hey, whatever...there's all kinds of riff raff in that list 🤣

So yeah, the Dynamix package.
