Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and wanted to ask if anyone else has tried to run Stonekeep in XP? I love this game and never finished it years ago, so it would mean alot to me to be able to play it now. Unfortunately, my hubby installed Windows XP last year, and I can't get it to play this game to save my life.

I'd really appreciate any hints or tips you could give me.

Thanks!

Tracy

Hey Tracy

In my exprience with nearly every DOS program is that there is no way they will run on Windows XP natively with Sound of course. 😜.
But, there are solutions, VMDSound and DOSBox. I've tried VDMSound on this one and it just doesn't like me.
But, DOSBox can run the original version (and the patched version 1.2) with realtive ease.

I have an original CD and DOSBox 0.62 runs the original CD with little problem. If you want to run the patched version of Stonekeep v1.2 you would have to run Stonekeep as sk win95 to make it run. But with the current source code build of DOSBox (which will eventually be DOSBox 0.63) will be able to run Stonekeep with little problem at all. It runs quite well in fact although movie sounds are still a few milliseconds off.

So give DOSBox a shot. You can ask more about DOSBox in the DOSBox forums here or at mypixels.dk. I often build and distribute the CVS (Sourcecode Unofficial) versions of DOSBox on http://mypixels.dk/forums. But the official builds of DOSBox come from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net.
