In order of speed from most to least:
- dynamic (fast but unstable with a few games)
- simple (fast but only emulates what older games need)
- normal (good balance between speed and compatability)
- full (slowest but most features emulated, and thus most stable)

If speed is the most important issue for you, then I'd go down the list until you find the best one.

and if you tell us the game then we can help you to get it to work. Most likely you can play it just fine on the host system.

i'm playing jagged alliance deadly games, i mean it would work fine and run perfectly without dos box at all but i need the ipx emulation so i can get the multiplayer working for it, however when i play multiplayer the game is extremely slow, yet with the same settings on single player the game is fine, runs great, i have no idea whats up with this

Hmmm, Try normal mode with IPX and see if that makes a difference.

If it doesn't then install Microsoft Virtual PC Trial and try JA under that.

nah core (normal) doesn't change the speed over ipx, that was what i was trying original before trying to go to dynamic

Microsoft Virtual PC (formerly Connectix) is an emulator (it emulates everything except the processor for the PC). It's just like having another PC, so you'll have to install the OS and everything else that goes with it.

but isn't this just a trail version, once it runs out it'll be useless? and is this to fix how the game runs or is it another way to use a network? since the game runs fine single player until i play it over the network

Yes, it's a trial.

You'll be able to use IPX on VPC if you set up the software properly.

but after the 30 day trial or whatever when it expires i wont' be able to use it anymore will i??
