hi im having problems with SW i have searched many sites and posts to find how to play sound in SW.

the fix for this problems many say is to copy all the files in the root directory put them into the DATA file and then run the game.
i have that vdm sound installed but when i run the main.exe it says...

error: FILE data/pop2.dat.

pressing return will continue only to get another error which is

error: FILE data/pop2.tab.

these problems continue for a few more errors before the main.exe crashes

i run the VDM in command prompt first.

im a newbie when it comes to this stuff so plz post and answers or technical info in detail 😀

SW? That could be a dozen games, and we can't read your mind to find out which one you're talking about.

People abbreviate old game names all the time here and expect everyone to know which one it is, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

I tried getting Syndicate Wars to run with VDMSound in Win XP, but could not even make it start.

I then tried it with DOSBox 0.63 - and that appears to work. I experimented a bit, and this is the configuration I ended up with:

# DOSBox configuration for Syndicate Wars.

[render]
frameskip=1
scaler=advmame2x

[cpu]
core=normal
cycles=6000
cycleup=500
cycledown=100

[sblaster]
irq=5

[autoexec]
@ echo off

mount C "I:\Downloads\Syndicate Wars\Unpacked"
C:

rem If these 4 files are not copied to the DATA directory,
rem I get no sound??

copy gamedg.dll DATA
copy gamefm.dll DATA
copy isnds-0.tab DATA
copy sound-1.tab DATA

call synd.bat
exit
