Never heard of the game, but it sounds hilarious!
Could be a bad copy. Dosbox is pretty solid. Try changing sound settings or cycles, or download it from someplace else.

The game works fine with dosbox. Make sure to select Joystick: Off, otherwise it'll be waiting for a joystick button press to continue past the logo instead of a key press.
